MessageSujet: Kids Inc. Fergie (Stacy Ferguson), Jennifer Love Hewitt and Renee Sands in a trip to the past.   Ven 27 Juin - 4:29

I am just going to start this thread tonight and add more very soon. However, anyone who wants to jump right in with additions or comments, that would be great.

I can't really do a better job than the wikipedia as an introduction, so I am copying the first part of it. It is a little long. Sorry about that.

I may post as many as 10 or 12 videos eventually, but start with three at first. One each for Stacy(Fergie), Renee, and J.L.Hewitt. These are pretty much the only three I like alot from the show. Oh yes, there is also Connie Lew, who is not seen that much, but was a great little singer.

Kids Incorporated (also known as Kids Inc.) was an American children's television program that was produced from 1984 to 1993.

It was largely a youth oriented sitcom with musical performances as an integral part of the plot and show.

Plot

The series revolved around a group of children and teenagers who performed in their own rock group, Kids Incorporated. The band members struggled to deal with issues ranging from divorce to violence to schoolyard crushes while performing regularly at a local restaurant/theatre, The P*lace (called The Malt Shop in the pilot). It was originally named The Palace, but the "a" in the neon sign burned out. It was never explained how the KI group funded or profited from their performances, but the show did not aim for strict realism. The action took place on abstract, "stagey" sets and the plots involved many fantasy elements (such as the band meeting a singing robot).

The city in which the P*lace was located was never disclosed. However, according to frequent director Paul Hoen, the show was supposed to be set in Fort Greene, a section of Brooklyn, New York City. The school depicted on the Kids Incorporated set had signage reading P.S., and later, Public School 127. The P.S. designation is associated only with NYC schools.

[edit] Cast and characters

The cast of Kids Incorporated was comprised mainly of children and teenagers. The only recurring adult members of the cast were Moosie Drier ("Riley", 1984–1988), Sean O'Riordan ("Flip", 1989–1992) and Dena Burton (1993), who played managers of The P*lace. Parents rarely appeared on the show or figured directly into episode plots.

[edit] The Kids Incorporated group

The members of Kids Incorporated ranged in age from eight to mid-teens. From 1987 to 1988 there were six members of the group; in other seasons, the band always consisted of three girls and two boys.

The characters on the show usually carried the names of the actors who played them (for instance, Stacy Ferguson's character was also named "Stacy"). However, in some cases, the names were shortened (Anastasia Horne became "Ana"), and in other cases they were completely replaced. For example, Marta "Martika" Marrero's character was named "Gloria" while Jerry Sharell's character was named "Mickey." Rahsaan Patterson was called "The Kid" and his real name was not revealed as Rahsaan until well into the series (although scripts continued to refer to him as "The Kid" regardless). Jennifer Love Hewitt's character was called "Robin".

Actors left the series when they "aged out" of their roles as kids. The disappearances of some long-running actors, such as Martika, Renee Sands, Stacy Ferguson, and Rahsaan Patterson, were written into the script. However, most of the time the performers were replaced without comment.

Stacy Ferguson held the record as the longest-running cast member, staying with the show for six seasons. Moosie Drier was part of the cast for five seasons; Renee Sands, Ryan Lambert, Kenny Ford, and Rahsaan Patterson were on the show for four years each. Several of the other performers, however, like Jerry Sharell, left the show after only one season; Sharell's departure was said to be due to creative differences with producers Thomas W. Lynch and Gary Biller. In particular, he was unhappy with the show's often bizarre and outlandish storylines.[citation needed]

All cast members performed their own vocals. Several, such as Devyn Puett, were also trained dancers and occasionally showcased their abilities. However, none of the performers actually played musical instruments. In many scenes in the show, the characters are shown pretending to play the piano, guitar and other instruments.

For many of the cast members, Kids Incorporated was the beginning of a fruitful career in the music industry. Currently, the most visible ex-KI kid is Fergie (Stacy Ferguson), a former member of pop trio Wild Orchid and who currently performs with the Grammy-award winning group The Black Eyed Peas as well as enjoying a very successful solo career. Others who have seen success in the fields of music and acting include Martika (Marta Marrero) ("Toy Soldiers"), Renee Sands (Wild Orchid), Rahsaan Patterson, Eric Balfour (24), Jennifer Love Hewitt, who was credited simply as "Love Hewitt," (Party of Five, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Ghost Whisperer) and Ryan Lambert (The Monster Squad, Elephone).

There is a huge number of Stacy (Fergie) Kids Inc. vids on youtube. I have never counted, but it may be close to a hundred. Plenty of Renee also. Some of the two singing solo on the same song. Not so many of J.L.Hewitt.

One of my favorites from Stacy. Billy Joel's Honesty

This may be my favorite from Renee. We Belong

Both Stacy and Renee sing solo here. The Jackson 5's ABC

Renee and Stacy again. If I Could

Stacy and Renee together one more time. I love this song and video, but the sync on the sound track is not good and it ends a second or two early. There is another version on youtube with the sync much better, but embedding is disabled on that one. If anyone really likes this and wants to see the better synced one, just do a search for kids inc. just once. It is the second one in the list.

Stacy and Renee. Just Once

Jennifer Love Hewitt Knocked Out

Renee singing Olivia Newton John's Physical

Stacy singing Lionel Ritchie's Say You Say Me

This is a favorite from Stacy. It starts with the Kids Inc. Intro and theme song.
Then Stacy sings Middle of the Road.

A couple people on youtube mention this all being available on DVD, but I can't find anything? There has to be some pretty enormous obstacles to overcome as far as copyright. Being Disney and getting permission to put them in a t.v. show in the 80s and early 90s was one thing. Putting them on DVD in 2008 is another I think. Also having trouble finding good quality pics. Just found a limited number of video captures. If anyone knows of any DVDs or good quality photos, please post here. Thanks.

I found this link for a decent fan page. If you click on the want more video clips, you can download some good ones there. Some of the files are small such as 11 or 12 mb and some are a bigger size, like 20 to 25 mb and a few that are 30+, which maybe are satisfactory for some. You can get pretty good quality clips of the two J.L. Hewitt above and Renee doing Physical and one of my favorites from Stacy, Middle of the Road. I think JLH is so cute and funny on the Knocked Out video.

I just found two more I really like. Here is the youtube embedded, but it can be downloaded from the site above.

I think just one more video because I wanted to have one here that featured Connie Lew, the little one of the group that I think was quite good, but not seen enough. In this one, Renee and Stacy are now young teens.

If I had to choose a favorite from all of the above videos, I would probably say it is We Belong that Renee sings. Look at that one and tell me how you like it. My second might be J.L.Hewitt I Still Believe. For me, these two performances have great emotion in addition to very good singing. Not that the others do not, just that these two are powerful songs for me. They reach more into my heart.

Seems to be plenty of Kids Incorporated added to Youtube on a regular basis. Thought I would add a couple for those that like Fergie as a child singer. Yes, for those that did not read what came before, this is Fergie from the Black-Eyed Peas and solo such as Big Girls Don't Cry. Actress/Singer Jennifer Love Hewitt was also in KI for those just coming to this thread for the first time maybe. Stacy and Renee must have become good friends on the show, as they later were in the group Wild Orchid as young adults. Check out the earlier posts. They are also in the child to adult singer thread.

Stacy (Fergie) Ferguson sings "Take Me Home"

Stacy and Renee at 12 and 13. Right On Track.
