Hey Caroline, I really like how most of the time you give very complete answers in your posts. Even when I don't fully agree with you. Laughing

Let me suggest that you go to page one of this thread and see SweetS/Lolita Strawberry in Summer. The video had been removed, but I put it there again. The first year I was on Youtube, it was one of my top 5 favorite videos. The girls are made to look a little older, but I believe all of them were 11 or 12 in that one. No one is more than 13 in that video. I especially like the girl who jumps up to the high notes in her solo.

While you are on page one, if you have time, also please look at Aa!/First Kiss and Berryz Koubou/Love's Spell. These two videos along with the above mentioned SweetS are my 3 favorite Japanese Girl Group videos and may always be. The littlest one in Aa! was such a good singer for her age I think. She is the one who hits the few really high notes.

They did remove the live version of Sweet Roses. Mad
Glad I downloaded it in a high quality version before that.
I looked and they have another version of it, but it is very bad sound, so I will not replace it with that. If a good version returns, I will repost it in the same place.

Finally, I guess I will give up on trying to convince others on Cream after this last post about them. Even though I have only these four videos to reallly judge them on, I just think they are all three very good singers, along with at least two and maybe all three being musicians also, who I think had a hand in composing their material. The one girl is a great pianist and I love her style of playing. I don't think they sound like anyone else I have ever heard. Maybe it is just a language thing. Some people just don't like certain languages; either to hear in speech or in song. For me, very few languages bother me in song. As far as Chinese, maybe it is easier for some to hear it in a more traditional or child song way such as 4 Golden Princesses, rather than more pop style such as this.

Sweet roses is only the name of the song right? I WISH I knew what the group is called, the song is so good No
I looked at them all, they had very good choruses (though the verses were too long) of course very talented girls and dancing cheers It was a surprise to me that Aa! was hip-hop sounding, I thought these groups were all pop Smile
I also looked at ZYX - Shiroi Tokyo which I liked very much. I will look at more in this thread later, it seems interesting.

Hey Caroline, I guess that means you liked Aa!? Try to see my other two favorites, SweetS Lolita Strawberry in Summer and Berryz Koubou Love´s Spell.

Just a couple notes on these Japanese Girl Groups. It seems to me that members jumped around and were in two or even possibly three different groups. I think it is because most of them are connected to the Hello Project. Sometimes that is hard to keep track of unless you do close comparison of videos. Some of these groups would do ´Close Up´ and ´Dance´ versions of their videos. I don´t think I have to explain how they shot and edited these in different ways. I like that idea. I am surprised that is not done more often.

I think it is often the case with MTK videos that you cannot figure out the name of the group. Rakugaki can tell more, but my understanding is that it is a t.v. show and they put out CDs for the shows and it is on those CDs that you can find the names of the singers/groups. There were other MTK videos on earlier pages of this thread, but the problem has always been the same with them. They are very controlling of their videos and often they get removed after a short stint on Youtube. If you go to page two of this thread, Rakugaki gives a little explanation on MTK.

Yes, Columbia Music remove all the video from YouTube. But we can find some on DailyMotion.
I have introduced all the CDs and DVDs on my site (well, one single and one DVD are still on my desk, but they will be soon on it).
MTK (Music Telebi-Kun) is the music part from a famous show for kids in Japan called Tensai Telebi-Kun.

Yes, it is really too bad about the MTK videos and Youtube. I have very much liked several of theirs. Too bad Caroline you did not get to see the ones I posted before. There were a couple I think that were very unusual in that they had a Girlsinger group that featured a white girl, a black girl, and a Japanese girl, all singing in Japanese. I think the white girl and black girl were maybe born there or at least raised there. They had a remake of the Abba song Mama Mia and another great video for the song Everything You Do.

Sorry, not on the forum very long today. Will comment more when I can watch the videos. Better hurry for the MTK, as those often disappear from Youtube.

PostSubject: Re: Japanese Girl Groups   Sat 21 Aug - 1:48

On page one of this thread, I posted my favorite from the Girl Group ZYX, which is Shiroi Tokyo. ZYX is like a second coming of Berryz Koubou, with many of the same members. Here is my second favorite video from them on Youtube. In both of the videos, Shiroi Tokya and this one, look at their eyes on the closeups. Or maye you can´t help but look, because they are attention grabbing for sure!

I found a SweetS video I had not seen before. Still all about 12 to 14 or so in this one. Maybe close to the same time as Lolita Strawberry in Summer. The thing that maybe sets SweetS apart from many of the other Japanese Girl groups is that they seem to be more stable. I think they are maybe still together or at least until recently. They kept the same members and stayed together for quite some time, where for the others, they were changing members or forming new groups or they were short-lived. A fair amount of English in the last part of this. Very Happy

Ah yes, ZYX. They're a short group from Hello! Project and H!P Kids in 2003. They made only 2 singles. I'm not really fan of Hello! Project so...

And the video of SweetS is their 4th single (06/2004).

PostSubject: Re: Japanese Girl Groups   Wed 25 Aug - 21:47

Hey Fangji, it sounds like you know something about some of the Japanese Girl Groups such as Berryz Koubou. If you know something interesting, share with us. I have known of these groups and videos for more than 3 years now, but I did not know much at all until recently from reading the wikipedia pages.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aa!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZYX
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berryz_Kobo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-ute
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello!_Project_Kids

From these pages I learned this.
One of my favorites, Airi Suzuki, was only 8 when she made the larger group Hello! Project and 9 when she sang lead for Aa! song First Kiss. She then became a member of C-ute. She is 16 now and the group Aa! was revived recently. Of her the Wikipedia page says this.
¨Notable for the fact that Airi Suzuki was only nine years old at the time of the single, she gives a remarkably professional and competent performance, making her the youngest girl to appear on a Hello! Project single with a major singing part.¨

It seems that after Hello Project´s first group, Morning Musume, there were 15 Girls left. ZYX and Aa! were created but were short-lived. They then formed the 8 member Berryz Koubou and then the remaining seven girls became C-ute.

I was always just guessing before, but I looked up the ages of various members and this is what I learned. I give this list as a way of knowing the ages and names of the various members in each group. I am just going by the birth year and the start of the group. Depending on the exact birthday, I could be just a little wrong on a couple of these.

For Berryz Koubou
Saki Shimizu was the oldest at 13 and 14 in the first couple years of Berryz Koubou, which was 2004-2005.
Momoko Tsugunaga was 12 in 2004.
Chinami Tokunaga was 12 in 2004.
Maasa Sudo was 12 in 2004.
Miyabi Natsuyaki was 12 in 2004.
Yurina Kumai was 11 in 2004.
Risako Sugaya was the youngest at 10 in 2004.

For C-ute
Erika Umeda was the oldest at 14 and 15 in the first couple years of C-ute, which was 2005-2006.
Maimi Yajima was the next oldest at 13 and 14 in 2005-2006.
Megumi Murakami was also 13 in 2005, but a few months younger than Maimi Yajima.
Kanna Arihara was 12 in 2005.
Saki Nakajima was 11 in 2005.
Airi Suzuki was 11 in 2005.
Chisato Okai was 11 in 2005.
Mai Hagiwara was the yougest in C-ute at age 9 in 2005.

ZYX was just in 2003. There is a reformed ZYX-a recently.
Mari Yaguchi was 20 years old in 2003. She is by far the oldest member of any of these groups I am listing.
Erika Umeda was 12 in 2003.
Maimi Yajima was 11 in 2003.
Saki Shimizu was 12 in 2003.
Megumi Murakami was 11 in 2003.
Momoko Tsugunaga was 11 in 2003.

Aa! was only 3 members in 2003 only.
Reina Tanaka was the oldest at 14 in 2003.
Miyabi Natsuyaki was 11 in 2003.
Airi Suzuki was 9 in 2003.

ZYX and Aa! are shuffle groups. shuffle group has only 1-3 singles.
i heard that Tsunku(producer) produced ZYX and Aa! because he wanted to know their ability.

8 members of hello project kids were chosen by Tsunku for Berry koubou.
in the first time Tsunku wanted berryz koubou was a shuffle member group. he wanted to changes members, choosed from girls in hello project kids. but then,he didn't changes members.
7 girls were still hello project kids. many people talked about why some of them were not chosen. Berryz koubou had nearby age which maybe it was a reason but missed some girls that had the same age such as Megumi.
poor c-ute had waited for 3 years since berryz koubou debuted.
c-ute got best new artist award in 2007. their third single was a most request song on radio.

Maybe you are correct Fangji. I cannot say for sure, but the Wikipedia says that C-ute started about a year after Berryz Koubou. The ages would seem to support that. Are you sure the very first version of C-ute was that much later? I will try to look up other sources beside Wikipedia. Thanks for the info. though.
