PostSubject: Are child singers becoming more popular?   Wed 4 Feb - 5:45

With JESC it seems that child singers are becoming more popular now.
Do you think that is the case, or are they just finally getting better public exposure?

Do you think it will become even more mainstream than it is now or has it reached saturation point already.
(ie. As popular as it is ever likely to get.)

I think it really depends of the countries. In France, for example, there's more kids singers in the 2000's than before, probably because of the Ilona phenomenon. But I remember some kids singers in the 1980's, but not in the 1990's. It's cyclic maybe.
And of course in Europe, JESC helped to discover new kids singers. That's sure.

I made a mistake, the word is "phenomenon", sorry. My english is not perfect.
And I was talking about Ilona Mitrecey, the young singer.

I could talk about this topic for ages, Rakugaki knows my opinion... Razz

Well, i personally believe that most kid singers are a subject of mass consumption and very few of them will actually proceed to an adult career.
So, maybe kid singers are becoming more popular, but (as we say here) 'the road ends at a dead end' for kid singers anyway...

What do you mean by that? That they only have a few years at most to be famous?
...or that it's briefly interesting and entertaining to watch them, then it's onto the next performer...

Yeah. And it depends what is "popular" for you. You can be very popular in one country but not in another one. For example, some japanese singers in the 90's was selling more than "famous" american artists...
And some kids singers can be popular outside the USA as the french Ilona Mitrecey (she sold her CD in a lot of european countries, in Asia, in America)... The same for the young Jordy, he was famous all over the world in the early 90's (not "very" famous, he was only a kid...).

It really depends. In some countries the young singers are becoming more popular - in others not so. My observations are that the countries that mostly recognize the young singers now are Australia , USA and Russia. And even between them there are huge differences ...cultural...etc. For example in Russia paying attention to the youth has been a government policy for many years. Then of course young singers have been always appreciated greatly in Japan. At the same time in other countries there are concerts but even if they are open for the general public people don`t know about them because the mass media is not too interested and prefer to focus on sensations like ....well you know what goes in the newspapers ...etc. Sometimes the Justin Biber`s phenomena gives an impression that things have changed globally - but its not so because in many countries people have not heard of him or any of the other young singers ( these are many countries in which English is not an official language )

And China of course, with very young singers, in general.

Yes I agree Norway and China as well. I can not list all countries and my observations on them , but overall I still feel that the young artists and singers do not get the recognitions they deserve

Well most of the child singers in Norway are not known at all. I can not compare much to other countries, but they do not have high status here.

Most of them aren't known by kids either, except a few Christian ones as most of them sing Christian songs.

What skykid? Australia doesn't really have any popular kid singers, unless you count older teenagers.

Not really Straalen, Cody they are all from Australia. Then when it comes to girls there are some really great talents such as Mckenzie Comer. I realize that its different for most people and it depends from your environment - I myself know a lot of names because I am involved in one way or another with the promotion of the young artists which includes knowing few people in the industry...etc. But I am well aware that some of the names I know may be unknown for the average Joe who rarely listens to young talent and has no idea who any of the singers I like are
