PostSubject: Cactus Cuties   Fri 3 Oct - 4:06

I just discovered a new Girl Singing Group, The Cactus Cuties. Baylee, Andi, Blaire and Madeline. Even though I have mentioned a few other places that I am not so fond of religious songs or Flag Waving songs either, and these girls do quite a bit of that, I still have to post them because they are just SO GOOD! Great harmonies and solo vocals. These girls have talent. I read on youtube comments that there are workings in progress of recording a whole CD. Even if it has several Christian songs, I would buy it. Also keep in mind that despite their young ages, they have actually been singing together for 5 years already!

Some links.
http://thecactuscuties.com/
Click on Listen and hear the two songs there. I do not like American's National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner. I do not like the words and I do not like the tune, but these girls give such a great performance and nice harmonies, I will listen to them do it. Jessica Sanchez also just did a recent performance of it at at San Diego Charger game and I liked her performance also. I guess I can dislike the song, but like the performance.

Read the story of their sudden rise to fame here.
http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/031108/loc_255728882.shtml

There seems to have been a fifth member, Tatum Lowe, but she is not on their current website, so I have not determined yet what happened to her.

Andi Kitten Age 11

Baylee Barrett Age 14

Blaire Elbert Age 11

Madeline Powell Age 9

Here they sing the National Anthem and then after an interview, sing the other song that is on their site.

A slightly different version of Aretha Franklin's Think. I love this kind of music, even if they did change a few words.

Here is the youngest, Madeline when she was 8 doing a solo performance of Music, Music, Music.

She is good on this and the girls together are fantastic, but if you compare her version of this song with the one I just posted on Lena Zavaroni's thread, I think you might agree she doesn't quite measure up to Lena. Lena was truly one of the most gifted child singers of all time and a true professional.

One more for now. So cute here from 3 years ago. Pretty good high note toward the end from a 6 year old. Oh Happy Day!

They are good singers but I don't really like the National Anthem... I really prefer the Aretha Franklin song. They are good on it ! The 2 others videos are really nice too.
They don't sing my best style of music but I can appreciate so good singers ! Smile

The Cactus Cuties are awesome! I've never liked USA's national anthem as much as sung by them. I think this is their original performance and the video that made them famous:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKCVS57j284

This arrangement is excellent and works best in a large arena with a long echo as in this video. It sounds too sterile in the studio clip. The girls are excellent singers and can make this kind of choir arrangement work.

Seems like Cactus Cuties are planning to start singing pop.... What do you think of it? I think they should keep on doing the choir kind of music, or at least keep the harmonies that they are so excellent in.

I am in between you two. I DO miss the harmonies, but this is good for a change from them. I would like to see them work the great harmonies into this kind of music, so we can have both. Very Happy

OH MY! I started this thread quite awhile back and had not kept up with these girls. I just found several videos I had not seen that I really like. I mentioned when I first started this thread that these girls leaned a little on the religious or flag waving songs, but I think they have moved away from that some and do a good variety now. They are really good singers and can do fantastic harmonies. I will start with their first official studio made like video.

A great version of an old Motown hit. In the info section of this video it says this. From the DVD of their Cactus Cuties LIVE at the Cactus 2009 Concert, The CCs perform "I Can't Get Next To You". The entire 22 track DVD and/or CD is available at www.thecactuscuties.com.

Some of their videos sound good and look good, but the sync on the sound and their lips are off, so I guess that is where they are taking a professional recording and fitting it with live footage. That is OK with me. I have seen that kind of thing often and I get used to it I guess.

This video is a medley of songs. Even though it would mostly go in the religious/flag waving category, it does show their great harmonies and has nice sound, so I put it here.

Some of their videos feature just one or two of the Cuties.

Someone else I did not know from before today.
I like their voices one by one and especially together Smile They are like the name suggest a group of cuties and I like them on stage. Though as you say their style is a little too much gospel, I am not a big fan of that. I have nothing against religious lyrics, but they style that seems to follow them is not a favourite of mine. But "Pretty little angle eyes" is not like that, I liked that one very much Wink

I guess I do not know who Sara is. I think all four of these girls are strong singers. Many of their videos are from about a year ago and more. The oldest girl looks younger than she is I think and is 15 now, with the others approaching teens soon. However, if they can get away from so much squeaky clean music (religious, flag waving) I think I will continue to like them. Their harmonies rival Lisa, Amy and Shelly.

Andi Kitten quit the group Sad Apparently her family is MEGA religious and didn't want them getting more popular so she left.

The Cactus Cuties DVD live performance is one of the most professional high quality products you can get of child singers. I don´t think they ever really make a mistake or hit a bad note. Also, even though it has some, the religious and flag waving songs don´t dominate the concert as a whole, but are just a part. It is really too bad about Andi. She was probably the best singer in the group.

Avery and the Calico Hearts who were on America's Got Talent are from the same Cactus Club producers and also the Little Kittens and Itty Bitties, Lil' Cutie Bitties, and Lil' Sis. Here is one of those. I also posted the Little Kittens in the Kids Sing in a Musical thread.

Just like it was with Lisa, Amy and Shelly, I figured if they stayed together, I would still like the Cactus Cuties when they got older. They are still great voices, individually and together.

The Cactus Cuties remain one of my very favorite Girl Groups of all time. Their DVD concert is still one of the most professional products of Kid Singers I own. The original Cuties are all teens now. One of them just suffered the loss of her mother. Baylee, who is the oldest lost her mother very recently. Sorry for her on that.

This video is from about three years ago and they are about the same age as their concert DVD. I love all the Cuties voices, but Andi is maybe my favorite. She left the Cuties awhile back and now there is a new girl to replace her. Baylee sings first solo on this video. Then Andi my favorite. Third is Blaire who can yodel sing better than any preteen I have ever heard, including Laura Omloop. The last to solo is Madeline. All four Girls are so good.

Here is Andi Kitten's little sister Alex singing a song from Annie. She is supported by big sister Andi and little sister Winnie. Alex and Winnie appear for one song on the great Cactus Cuties concert DVD I mentioned.

I already mentioned about there being other Girl Singers from the same production team of the Cactus Club. Avery and the Calico Hearts was one and they were on America's Got Talent a year ago. Before they became Avery and the Calico Hearts, they were called the Cactus Itty Bitties.

I think it could be that to enjoy the Cactus Cuties as much as I do, you have to be American. Their style is often not the kind that would have universal appeal, but maybe geared more towards their Amerian audience. I just think they all have such great voices and the harmonies are right up there with Lisa, Amy and Shelly. All their videos and the DVD I mentioned are totally live and I don't think I have ever heard them hit a bad note. They are just SO GOOD! Now that they are all teens, maybe they don't impress me the way they used to, even though they can still sing perfectly, but listening/watching the stuff from about three years ago still gives me much pleasure. Very Happy

Hey Moorvis, I know you used to comment on these girls. I am sure you are impressed like me by their totally live in concert abilities. No comments lately from you on this thread though. Sad

The Itty Bitties are great entertainers, but not really at the level of the Originals in singing yet!
