PostSubject: Does the Search function work properly?   Wed 4 Feb - 6:48

When I try to search something it often doesn't find anything even though I know it's there.
Does it take some time before posts get indexed for search, or someting?

I wish Search would work properly. Neutral

Edit: After some more "testing" it looks like only certain words are searchable. scratch

PostSubject: Re: Forum problem   Sat 28 Feb - 20:42

Since we are getting more threads now and since the search doesn't work very well I think it would be good if the forum was organized better... I wasn't able to find "Shirley (Temple)" with Search, for example.

I think "Artists of the world" should be split into ...
(1) Girl singers (including all-girl groups),
(2) Boy singers (including all-boy groups), and
(3) mixed artists (various)
...for example.

What do you think? Smile

I found a better way to search the forum, if necessary...

Go to Google and in the search box enter

site:kidsvocal.discutforum.com search word(s)

eg

site:kidsvocal.discutforum.com Alina

It wont work for very new posts though...

Bonjour,

Ce message est toujours en boîte d'envoi !
Est-ce normal ?

Je crains que ce soit provoqué par la reconnexion obligatoire du début de mois ...

Merci

Rakugaki, this pictures on main page is too big. It stretches width of forum main page beyond of how it should look on PCs, beyond limits of usual PC's screen and making it difficult to see last message date and and name of poster of last poster on forum to check for new message and click to see last message. You should make it smaller like this

http://s013.radikal.ru/i323/1605/f9/3dd5cdcf6918.jpg
or
http://s014.radikal.ru/i326/1605/3d/f319d43bde3d.jpg
or
http://s018.radikal.ru/i524/1605/eb/fc212d3acb1f.jpg
or
http://s019.radikal.ru/i618/1605/13/278fd94ae118.jpg

because otherwise forum looks like this and visitors of forum can't see Last Posts column where important info as last message date and and name of poster of last poster on forum because it goes beyond screen:

forum should look like this if you size a picture to return forum to normal width:

???? Why does everyone post in such a large format here? We all have the ability to enlarge it ourselves. It just seems like an unnecessary step. If I want to view it in full screen I just click on "full screen" and I see it fine on my small viewing area. If I want to impress someone, I just don't post cause it is likely on the wrong thread anyway. Razz

yes I have 1024x768 pix screen size resolution. well I never seen forum with logo picture so large, though anyway this logo picture is appearing only on main page of forum so we can live with it - we have to scroll a little bit left on pages of forum anyway because 854x480 pix videos are also a little bit stretching left beyond screen and preventing last words of message lines to be seen.

Tonie,
large format you mean why we post 854x480 pix large videos? it is a little bit too big for my screen but only a little bit so I thought we could bear it. Because most people have no less than 1024x768 computer screen size.
But I just thought this large videos are convenient for watching videos on forum because you don't have to bother click on "full screen" and can just enjoy video almost in full screen immediately, because most of the time I personally just don't wanna bother clicking "full screen".

Tonie,
well I'm sure you too also far not always clicking "full screen" before watching a video on forum besides some videos have "full screen" button disabled when embedded. Smile

Well first problem on forum as I've already said is too big wide logo picture. I don't remember seeing any forum like that.

I wanted also say second problem on forum I think also is too many videos on pages of forum which makes opening loading of pages very slow and I thought this can be solved by just taking thumbnail pictures of videos from youtube/google pics, or making thumbnail yourselves, and then posting thumbnail/screenshot/caps picture linked to url address of video and this way page with pictures will be opening loading times faster. Videos themselves can be watched on youtube by going picture link. Problem worsened since number of messages per page was extended from being 15 to 25.

And third problem of course is the languages of forum interface which should be changed to English on forum. That which also turning people away from registering on forum or visiting it more often.

Thanks, Sam! I am not sure what you mean by "full screen " button disabled because I never tried to shrink those gigantic video posts here. When I post a video it can always be enlarged by simply clicking "full screen" mode. I agree that this site is so slow to load. I think that is caused by those gigantic videos that are posted. The bigger, the longer time it takes to load. I also agree that it would be helpful to have the language on the forum interface  changed to English. I could be a little selfish on that one but, the majority of posters here use English as their primary language. Every month, when the calendar changes and I have forgotten my password again Laughing , I have to use google translate to figure out how to get back on here. Your thoughts are pretty much in line with mine. Very Happy In addition---I know people who would be great to have as members here, but they get confused by the French and simply don't join. Sad

PostSubject: Re: Forum problem   Sun 17 Jul - 0:27

Tonie,
yeah I meant actually exactly about this, that embedded videos here on forum not always can be enlarged by simply clicking "full screen" mode, because it's just not working on some videos, for example  even the last video you posted in "One day, one clip" thread, but that doesn't matter, it is just few videos and it is not really a reason for why we posting videos of large size. The main reason is convenience. Don't you find this idea to be convenient? I think like it should be convenient for you too if video size fit your screen even if you have to scroll left for it. I thought this makes viewing of videos on forum more comfortable and enjoyable which also compensate for slow loading of videos because actually on my computer I do not see difference for worse with a new large size videos, it is the same slow for me either way, аround 30-40 seconds to load a page. Although you're right maybe we should go to smaller 560x315 px size of video which is also convenient enough and better fits screen - always scroll left is also not convenient. And guess it's not really convenient when video do not fit a screen perfectly for some people with smaller laptop screens or iPads. I myself want myself really small laptop size like a book to carry around.

Actually when I first discovered this forum around 3 years ago I wasn't been able to watch any videos on this forum at all they're just did crash. Because my computer had not power enough to load so many videos on one page. But luckily soon after discovered this forum I got my self a new computer because my old one been a little bit broken - I couldn't run a program I needed on it which until worked perfectly.

I am discouraged, Sam ,that there is no way on this forum to tell if anyone read your posts or not. I have seen your posts and others. I think you always have to make a comment to acknowledge that you have seen the post and like it. Just wanted you to know, I like your posts. Without any acknowledgement, how would you know? Neutral

Tonie,
I think you mean you wish we expressed more evidently whether we liked what been posted because and  you're right, it is a pity that there is no "like" button on forum like on youtube. However we can "like" by messages. We can leave messages/replies after video we liked posted. For example we can write a message with a simply one word "like" in it, we can post a message and write simply one word "like" in it, or we can write more words "Sam1989 liked this post/video", or "Sam1989 liked this new post from Sat 24 Jun by Tonie". I know its robotic. But as I already have said I'm a perfectionist and want everything to be perfect so I usually spend too much time writing my messages and too often I am embarrassed by what I had written later so I prefer not to write anything too often embarrassed by may own messages and looks like the more time I spend on a writing a message the more sillier it will be. But I think I can write these robotic messages - may my suggestions will look a bit silly so we should better decided what message or what word or which words we should write to like a video, a post.

But to only know to know whether your message have been read you can find out this with pretty much certainty by looking at http://kidsvocal.discutforum.com/memberlist page where can be seen that these 5 persons have visited forum from the time I posted my video - ir2015ru, PoorJew, Tonie, clearsky, Sam1989 and knowing that these are regular forum visitors with posts, that is real people, you can conclude with high degree certainty that they did see your posts because surely they won't visit forum for almost everyday for nothing. And when others post video updates on a yours or a certain thread/topic it means that they too like/follow career of this singer and with higher degree certainty visit thread of this singer once it updated, which you can see by looking at number of views of a thread in a Replies column, although it's not like we have a lot of newly created/updated threads everyday. Though I admit I'm not always watch videos posted on forum if I'm not much interested in a singers whose videos posted. And also I think I'm lazy going from thread to thread loading heavy pages. Because of this what I also wish was on forum is page where I can look all newly posted messages on one page like smf forums have. For example Connie Talbot forum have this kind of page/ it's called Recent Posts and you can see there all forum posts like in one big thread and you don't need to go from one thread to another to check new updates:
http://www.conniesbeautifulworld.com/recent/

As about me. What discourages me is that this forum only about kids singers and not about kids actors too.. Though we can still create thread to kids kids actors in this part of the forum and it will bring more people on forum probably. Though its will make forum more difficult to use you will need more to look up for updates
