PostSubject: Oldies but goodies, in Spanish. Child singers from the 90's and before.   Tue 26 Aug - 4:23

I came across some videos on youtube that got me going on this as a theme. Just for an introduction, let me give a little bit of a background. I mentioned in my thread on American Juniors that it was watching that show that got me going with this special interest in a strong way. It was shortly after that show, that my 'adopted' family in Belize, where I was living, asked me for CDs of music by child singers. At the time, I was only aware of a few that actually did professional recordings. Kimberly Scott and Billy Gilman and I vaguely remembered Lena Zavaroni. I then did research and I discovered Maria Isabel, who had just won the 2004 JESC and Aselin Debison, and a few others.

However, I was aware of some child singers, whose shows I was watching at the time on Spanish language stations such as Belinda in Amigos X Siempre, Danna Paola in La Nina de la Mochila Azul, and Codiga Fama and the Novela(Soap Opera) it created, Alegrijes y Rebujos. These were new shows at the time, mostly from 2000 to 2005 or so. Many of these have been mentioned briefly in other threads, but maybe I will create a new thread for them also in the near future. Anyway, I just was not aware of any recordings by any of these at the time, but later with Youtube and more research, I found there are many on CD.

Ah, but these were not the first kid singers in Spanish I knew and enjoyed. It was in the 90's that I was an avid watcher of two shows. These were the variety show El Club de Los Tigritos and the very musical novela that had three different incarnations I believe, Chiquititas. Don't get excited Kosm1fent, it had nothing to do with the ABBA song.

One last note of information of how I came up with this theme. When I first came to live in Tijuana, MX I went to a big swap meet(Mercado) and I found my first CDs by Danna Paola and a group that is very well known in Latin America called Timbiriche. They formed as a group in the 1980's, when they were all around 10 or 11 or so and recorded for many years. I had found their first CD. I had found some videos on youtube of all these when I started my account, but now there are many more that I just discovered, so I am putting them all together in this thread.

I am not finished researching and getting information, so if anyone has info. to add or corrections, I'd appreciate it. I am just starting this tonight. I will be adding a little each night this week.

I will start with Timbiriche. Here are some videos from their early years.

La Banda Timbiriche. I guess sort of a theme song for them.

Noches de Verano

Un Dia en el Campo

No more time. I must sleep. Next time, more Timbiriche and also coming, El Club de Los Tigritos, Chiquititas, Los Parchis, and Lucero and her younger days on Chispita and others, like an 8 year old Irene Cara singing in Spanish a long time ago.

Hello Kosm1fent, glad someone saw this. Anyway, I think it is easier for those that want to know the history of Timbiriche to look at their Wikipedia. Here it is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timbiriche
This nice photo is from there.

Here is Timbiriche with other child singing stars, who I will add more videos for this week.

First, here child actress and singer, Lucerito(Lucero when a little older) is singing the lead and Timbiriche helps.
Here is a Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucero

Lucerito and Timbiriche Chispita

Here is Timbiriche with another child singing group from the same era, Parchis. They sing Lennon's Imagine in Spanish.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parch%C3%ADs_(group)

Another one by Lucero Alibombo

Much more coming this week. But to end for the night, how about Irene Cara at 8 singing in Spanish. Who knows Irene Cara? Well, first here is the old video.
Ola! Ola! Ola!

Wasn't she a little fireball of a performer already. I love that video. Might as well keep going with the Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irene_Cara
Her most famous songs are Flashdance/What a Felling, Fame(Theme song from the movie) and this one, Out Here On My Own.

This is not really in the theme of this thread, but has anyone seen this girl singing this same song of Irene's. This is Nikka Costa singing Out Here On My Own. This was a hit for her when she was 9 years old. She is a fantastic singer still.

Really interesting thread, thanks !!

I've never heard about Timbiriche, they are cool. It's funny to see they are singing with Parchis. The 2 bands was singing in the same time but Parchis was from Spain (I have 2 CDs of them and I've talked about them on my site) and Timbiriche from Mexico.

And really interesting to see the young Irene Cara. At 8, she already had a powerful voice. Smile

Lucero did many things in her career including a Novela called Chispita. Ah, but there was a movie called Chispita y Sus Gorilas that had a lot of music and singing and a girl named Macarena Camacho starred as Chispita. Very cute and entertaining for me. Here are a couple videos from that.

Qué divertido!, ¡qué divertido

She does sing in this one. Keep watching. I love this one! So cute!
La vuelta al mundo en góndola

More from the Parchis
La Plaga

I mentioned that there were 3 incarnations of the musical novela Chiquititas. Three regualar productions that I know of and then more produced in Argentina, Brazil and maybe elsewhere. I will have to research more. Many of their videos on youtube have something that I think is Hebrew words, whatever that is about.

This is the one that I watched first and it is my personal favorite group of Chiquititas doing the theme song.

Rechufas (1995)  Chiquititas

More of the same group.
Mentiritas (1995)

This is another girl from the same group. Strange. She seems sweet in this video, but in the Novela, she is maybe the number one trouble maker among the girls. I don't mean small trouble either.
Igual Alos Demas

Here is a good video to show how many different people were in this series and the many different settings and such they did. This has clips from all the various Chiquititas.
Memorias

Just one more like that. Many clips from all Chiquititas
Si Querés, Podés

There are probably hundreds of videos of Chiquititas on youtube, mostly musical, but also some that are just the drama, without singing. Check them out for yourself if you want, but I will be back with many more. Anybody like this?

Chiquititas is a telenovela from Argentina. And there's a new 2006 version.
The CD :

There's another version of the show from Brasil.

I forgot to put the Wikipedia for Chiquititas last night. Here it is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiquititas
Good overview of the show and a complete cast list that is HUGE!
It is great you are adding Rakugaki, because that usually means you are interested. Smile

It is fine what you did, but my plan was to try to keep this thread to the older stuff, such as 90's and before and then I was going to do a similar Spanish t.v. related thread on 2000s stuff, including more Chiquititas, Codiga Fama, Amigos x Siempre with Belinda, Alegrijes y Rebujos, and the three Danna Paola Novelas and more.

Anyway, COOL!. I have lots more to put here. I will try to introduce a few more and then come back and add more videos and photos on all the different singers presented.

But first, here is one more for now of Chiquititas. One of my favorites.
Chiquititas finales del 97

And now here is the the first Spanish language show featuring children that I started watching. El Club do Los Tigritos, which started in 1994. It also lasted for several years and after the first few years, they started to gradually change the cast, rather than wholesale changes at once. The first few years featured two teen girls, Wanda and Jalymar, and the group who came to be know as the Fab Four(stolen from the Beatles). The Fab Four were all around 10 or 11 in the first year and they did all keep with the show until their mid teens or so. The Fab Four were Tyanny, Roxana, Estefanía, and my Very Favorite, Yorgelys.

The two teens are Wanda on the left and Jalymar on the right. My favorite, Yorgelys is hugging Wanda on the far left and Roxanna is hugging Jalymar on the right. Estefanía is at the top and Tyanny is on the bottom.

To tell the truth, especially when they were young, the Fab Four mostly were decent singers, but not always fantastic. Some of the time, I was wondering if it was really the girl we were seeing that was the actual voice, like a Manili Vanili kind of thing, but I am not sure about any of that. They pretty much hit the notes right, as it was recorded and lip synced, but all of them were certainly EXCELLENT dancers. The dancing was always great from all the kids, which was almost always about 3/4s girls and 1/4 boys. I will give some web pages later, as there are still alot after all these years. The Fab Four are all now in their mid twenties. Some of the girls who eventually came to be featured as the FF became full blown teens were also very good. I will eventually get to most of them, but I do not have much more time tonight. Here are a few to start off.

In this video, two of the Fab Four are featured. The first one that sings solo is Estefanía. The second soloist is Roxana.
Bananas

I have run out of time. Much more of the Tigritas soon and also Marisol. Anyone know Marisol?

You commented already, but still let me introduce Marisol in case someone else out there does like Flamenco style singing or dancing. Marisol did both.

Her Wikipedia tells how big she was, not only in Spain, but in parts of Latin America. She continued to act into the 1980's. She has three daughters, one an actress and one a flamenco singer also.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marisol_(actress)
The url for the above includes the (actress) part.

Well, it looks like two of you don't like flamenco style of singing, but it still remains true that Marisol was great at this genre, and in the early 1960's, the style was more familiar to people. She is probably the original child flamenco singer and hugely popular in the 60's. I find many here in Mexico that know her, because her old movies still play on t.v. sometimes and there are videos in some stores.

If you are sure you don't like Flamenco, or it gives you a headache (kosm1fent), then do not click on the following. If you think Marisol is pretty or maybe you like the dancing, but not the singing, then click and turn the volume off.

This is a long one with several clips from one of her movies, and she sings a few songs.

Well, unless someone expresses an appreciation of Marisol, I will not post more on her. Anyone familiar with El Club de Los Tigritos? I only posted one video and one photo so far, but I will try to put more in the next few days. So far, I am having trouble finding decent quality vids on youtube of the Fab Four together. They appeared together much of the time, so I don't know why that is a problem, except that back then, people were recording these on VHS tape and then they have converted it to digital for the Interent, but why I cannot find more of the Four, I don't know. Oh yes, one more note on that. Their show was just starting when the Internet was beginning to take off. The Tiger Club had many fans and clubs, including many fan pages on the Internet in the 1990s. Even after all these years, some still exist. It was these fans that started the Fab Four name. Stole it right from the greatest group of all time. Oh well.

If anyone likes the Tigritos, there are video downloads here. http://www.estefania.org/wmv/
Anyway, I am still searching for videos that give a good portrayal of the first three seasons, then after that I will put some videos that show the transition to some of the other girls that had been just the background dancers.

Is it close enough to Christmas. No, not really, but I did find a good video that shows the two teen stars and the Fab Four. As mentioned already, these 6 appeared together many times, so I should be able to find more.

Navidad 95

Since I am still searching for what I want to put, I will put this one that is quite nice. This is during the time that the Fab Four were still around, but there was a transition going on to make some of these newer girls or girls that had been only background dancers to have more of a starring role.

Ven a Cantar

Here is one featuring just the Fab Four. This seems to me to be about their third year, because they seem to be about a litte more mature. My favorite, Yorgelys, is the one who sings the first solo.

Here is a variety show from Spain in the late 70's and early 80's, Enrique and Ana. Don't know much about this one except what I can figure out from the videos and the Wikipedia in Spanish. http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrique_y_Ana

Here is a mix of songs and video clips to give an idea of what the show was like.

Well, I think I am out of the "oldies" in Spanish-90s and earlier, so I will post some more videos of the ones already introduced. I was hoping for more comments. Not so many posters here lately. I really like the new 'old' one I found Marcarena Camacho in Chispita y Sus Gorilas. Anyone else? Chiquititas has so many child singers and did so many kinds of things, I was expecting more action on that one. I will certainly post more of that. Hundreds on youtube I believe.

One more of Macarena Camacho in Chispita y Sus Gorilas.

Here is one with Lucerito and another girl singing Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile from Annie-In Spanish. From the children's variety show Chiquilladas. Not great quality video, but good enough I guess.

Here are the Parchis doing their theme song.

One more from the Parchis. I like these danceable songs.
Marinero

Timbiriche - Solo Tu, Solo Yo (La Trayectoria)

I really wish this was better quality. It is the opening credits song for Chiquititas for each year 1995 to 2001 all together in one video.

This is a favorite of mine from the first year of Chiquititas(1995). I liked 95 and 96 the best, but it remained pretty good even as they did changes of cast and setting through the years. What are those strange letters on some of their videos? Seems like Hebrew or something, but I am not sure.
Hasta diez - Chiquititas 95

Look at this one I found. It introduces all the girls from 95 and a few others from other years, with their character name, with many clips of each. You can compare this with the cast list on Wikipedia and figure out each actress/singers' real name. Jimena again looks sweet in this, but her character was a big time trouble maker. There were a few episodes where she seems to be sorry for being bad and you feel a little sympathetic, but mostly, she was always causing problemes. Very nice song with different soloists also.

I guessed wrong it seems or not many people are looking at the forum right now or something, because I really thought there would be more interest in Chiquititas at least. I did not think everyone would like everyone I put in this thread and that is OK, but Chiquititas have so many different child singers and lasted for many years and they do so many different things, I thought most would appreciate them. Oh well.

I almost hesitate to do this because it is mostly Flamenco style also(but maybe a bit softer), but it seems incomplete if I do a thread on oldies child music in Spanish and I do not mention Joselito, who for many years in the 50s, 60s and 70s, was the most well known child singer in the Spanish speaking world. He was even somewhat known in the U.S. His movies repeated constantly for years, even after he left childhood long behind. So here is me, Girlsingerfan, posting on a boy, because this is not complete without him. Here is the Wikipedia to give you the idea of how popular he was.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Jim%C3%A9nez_Fern%C3%A1ndez

El Pastor. Sure could hit those high notes.

Abuelita

This is a cute one because he is singing a love song to a girl.
El Ruiseñor

I am looking for more photos on the various singers I posted in this thread. Anyone want to help? Photos, websites, comments on anyone in this thread would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If there is anyone now or maybe in the future, that does like Chiquititas, especially the early years like me, I think this is a better cast list than the one I put earlier from Wikipedia. The Wikipedia one was either missing some or unclear on characters.
Since this is an imdb.com page, you can click on each actress/actor of interest and see if she/he did any other work.

wow, chiquititas... I love you I love you
I used to watch that a long, long time ago. I think 1995 season was the best. the 2006 season was quite bad if you compare it to the originals....
I believe it's kind of hard to find information on the show for it's already quite old, I'll see if I find something.....

I'm not sure, but I remember some sort of contest they did last year in Mexico to find a new band related to Timbiriche...I'm not sure I'll look for more information on it....

I totally agree with you Annika about 95 being the best and first season for Chiquititas. 96 was still good, and 97 was OK. It then started becoming something quite different, but still with some good music anyway.

You are right, there was a contest last year to find members for a new creation of Timbiriche. They recorded as a group for several years as kids, teens and young adults. This shows you how they looked when they started as kids.

On my Youtube channel, I have several Playlists according to language or region. I recently changed my GirlSingers in Spanish to GirlSingers in Spanish and Portuguese because that was the most convenient place to put any singers in that language. They are very similar languages and Brazil is almost surrounded by Spanish speaking countries and Portugal is right next to Spain. This made sense to me to put them together. Therefor I am doing the same in this thread.

Anyway, I got to thinking of an singing duo I found several years ago from Brazil. Fangji reminded me of them with his post of Trem da Algegria in another thread. I was living in Belize and a family I knew wanted some CDs with kid singers. This was before Youtube. I did research on the Internet. Two that I found at that time were from Brazil. Trem da Algegria and Sandy Y Junior. Their very first appearances were when they were very young in about 1989 when they were about 5 and 6. Their career as brother/sister singing duo just kept getting bigger as they grew older.

These two are one of the biggest selling recording acts in Brazilian history.

Here is their http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandy_%26_Junior

Here is Sandy at 14, not with Junior, but Andrea Bocelli.
