PostSubject: Ask a question about JESC   Fri 22 Aug - 12:42

It is a strange question. This is JESC 2008: www.junioreurovision.tv
I found that why these ASIAN countries like Azerbaijan,Armenia,Georgia can take part in the contest. But China,Japan,Korea,Singapore cannot taken part in ?I always think it is an European contest.

3301> The Azeri, Armenian and Georgian broadcasters are members of the European Broadcasting Union (or EBU). S you know, EBU organises the JESC... Wink

Here is the map with all countries-members of EBU...

All the colored countries you see are considered part of Europe (for the Senior and Junior Eurovision song contests only).
So, only these countries can participate at JESC...

Strange, used to know that in Wikipedia the countries are Asian countries. But in fact, the countries always belong to Asia.Because they are in Asia land. And maybe it is not EU but EBU(Because Switzerland ,Norway and Iceland are not in EU but in EBU)......

No no, EU has nothing to do with it. I agree that some members are in Asia or in Africa, but that has nothing to do with it... Smile

Besides, who can really tell us which countries belong to Asia? At the Soviet Union days, the border between Europe and Asia was USSR's borders. But now... Kazakhstan is considered as "Europe", Uzbekistan (right next to Kazakhstan) is considered as "Asia"... Rolling Eyes

Yes,I don't like to take part in some contest or competition which I cannot get money. I like the Olympic Games so.I hope the contest can make a prize that the winner may get million of dollars:D
I search on the web,it is said Kazakhstan belongs to Central Asia. And in Central Asia, there were some countries such as Uzbekistan,Kyrgyz,Turkmenistan,Kazakhstan.

It would be completely wrong to let the kids win money, that's disgusting!
There are geographical rules for what countries belongs where, check in an atlas Smile
In ESC and JESC it is the EBU countries who can participate, just like kosm1fent said Wink

3301> Geographically Kazakhstan is in Asia, but politically belongs to Europe. Their broadcaster is a member of EBU, their Football Assosiation is a member of UEFA, etc.

But JESC winners get money! Laughing

Why get money is disgusting? In Olympic Games, some childen players or athletics always get a high amount of money, maybe several millions of money.
And in JESC or ESC are the kids professional and make life by singing? Very Happy

The fact that JESC winners receive money is true:

Quote :
One journalist asked her (Kseniya) what she would do with her new-found wealth.

"I never heard anything about money!" she said. "But if you're offering, I won't refuse!"

Part of Kseniya's press conference after her 2005 win ( http://web.archive.org/web/20051217075144/www.junioreurovision.tv/english/1471.htm )

I did not read her press conference (not since 2005) but are you sure they actually win money as prize because of jesc? It may just be because you become popular and earn money because of that?
