Another song contest from Belarus, Vitebsk 2008.
It was from 10th to 19th july 2008.
I'm asking me about the future of JESC with such a contest...

Yes, this is a very important competition to watch. Winners have participated in JESC too, and often placed quite high too.

Do you know what is the relation between those 2 contests ?

I don't think they are officially related in any way. The Children's competition is part of a bigger festival, Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk. From what I have understood, it is one of the biggest festivals of Slavic music, and has performers from all over the Slavic countries.

There are probably not so many kids active at one single time, so they participate in both JESC and Vitebsk in the same year.

Great photos Rakugaki. Very nice. I will have to try to find some performances by some of these. I do know of Madelina of course. See the thread I started for her. Lara seems familiar too, but I will have to look again. Thank you very much for starting this. It deserves more attention and additions. I will try to do that later in the week.

The festival is called "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk" Vitebsk is just the name of the town. It is a really important festival not a contest...Its main program is devoted to Slavic music, but they have guests from all around the world....both Slavic and non-Slavic.
during the festival they organize a contest and since 2003 there's a contest for kids

The winner of 2003 children contest was Noni Razvan Ene who in 2004 represented his country (Romania) in jesc
in 2005 the winner was Ksenia Sitnik from Belarus, also the winner of that year's JESC
2007 winner was Andrey Kunets from Belarus who represented his country in JESC 2006
this years winner was Lara from Russia, she has participated in 2 national finals hoping to go to JESC one in Russia(2006 ended up 2nd) and one in Armenia (this year )

The slavianski bazaar is a great competition.Tthe children compete on two different days and the winner is chosen from among them.

In 2008 i recommend watching Egle Jurgaityte of Lithuania perform the Eurovision song "Strazdas", a fantastic performance:

Egle represented Liyhuania at the Junior eurovision contest as well in 2008

Well thanks for the welcome. Since this is probably my second most favorite children's competition after the junior eurovision, I will probably spend some time on this thread.

This year's bazaar was won by Maria Craciun of Romania.

My favorites though were Virgilia Siddi of Italy and Stasha Skoric (Sonjas sister) from Serbia

Virgilia caught a fever in the Belarussian cold and was awarded a special prize for bravery

I did very much enjoy Virgilia. She has an unusual quality in her voice that I like. What amazing eyes and eyebrows also! Beautiful child.

I do not really like Stasha or Sonja. Egle is better on other songs.

I think Madalina and Lara still remain my favorites from these. See the thread I started on Madalina Lefter on page two.

Kseniya remains so pretty, but what an ugly dress!

Virgilia has an interesting voice! Her pitch is a bit lost at times in the first one but second is better. Those eyebrows look really really unnatural!
